(Adapted from hc_bingo)

Sign ups: cards can be requested anytime before September 30, 2010
Round one: June 20, 2010 to Dec 31, 2010
Amnesty period: Jan 1, 2011 to March 31, 2011

1. Each bingo card is a randomized 5x5 grid filled with schmoop prompts drawn from a master list. The goal is to make a bingo on your card. A bingo can be made as a line, blackout, X, or +. For more information see Points and Scoring.

2. Squares are marked off toward a bingo or an extra by filling the prompt within the square. For each square a new piece of fanwork (fic, art, vid, etc.) must be created.

3. You can submit any kind of fannish content: fics, art, vids, podfics, picspams, icons, and mixes. To keep the amount of work a fill takes consistent there are minimum requirements for a fill. They are as follows:

fic - 500 words
art - medium sized
icons - set of 10
podfic - 500 word fic
picspam - 20 pics
vids - 30 seconds
mix - 10 songs

4. After completing your first bingo you may complete extras on your current card or request a new card. Extras cannot be completed until the bingo has been made and they do not count toward a bingo. For more information on extras see Points and Scoring.

5. You must complete at least one bingo on your card before requesting a new one. Once you request a new card, you may not go back and score additional points from your first card. If you would like to do extras, you must complete them before asking for a new card. You may request a maximum of three cards per round.

6. Anything already publicly posted may not be used to fill a square for schmoop bingo; however, new chapters of an existing WIP may be used as long as the chapter containing the fill is not posted prior to the start of Round 1.

7. You can reuse any square on your card as many times as you want but each use must be a new piece of fic, art, etc. A fill cannot be used in more than one bingo or extra. You may put more than one fill in a multi-chaptered work but each fill must be in a separate chapter.

8. Fills can be posted where you see fit (your journal, communities, AO3, etc.). To receive a bingo, and the relevant points, you must post to the schmoop bingo community. All links need to go to open posts (no locked/private entries/sites). For more information see Posting Template below. We will only count points for what is posted to the comm before 11:59 p.m. Dec 31 in your local time zone.

9. By signing up for a card you are committing to fill at least one prompt by the end of the round. Since it's not an exchange challenge, there's no penalty for defaulting: ultimately, you need to fill just one square during the posting / amnesty periods to be eligible for the next round.

10. If you have not filled a prompt by Dec 31, 2010 you can still fill prompts during the amnesty period. Prompts filled during the amnesty period will not receive points.

11. Your fanwork should have more than just a singular mention of the prompt. It should deal with it in some way. For example, if your prompt is "stuffed animal" that should be a significant factor in your fanwork, not just a passing mention. How you deal with a prompt is left at your discretion.

12. As this is a schmoop-writing challenge, please do not go overboard on the angst and use warnings for potentially triggering content. However, if you feel that a prompt(s) is triggering to you, please email the mods (schmoop.bingo.mods at gmail.com) and we will work with you.

There will be first, second, and third place winning slots. The winners will be determined by who has accrued the most points with their bingos. Prizes will be as follows:

Third place - 10 icons of whatever fandom/images the winner likes
Second place - 20 icons of whatever fandom/images the winner likes
First place - 30 icons of whatever fandom/images the winner likes

All Bingos - participation banner/icon
Blackouts - personalized banner/icon

There will also be arbitrary mod prizes that are, naturally, arbitrary, but those winners will each receive one wallpaper of whatever fandom/images they like.

If you are interested in making prize artwork, please PM any of the mods (please put 'Schmoop Bingo' in the header) or email the mods.

Signing Up for a Card

To sign up for a card please leave a comment in the sign up post. This will be the community where you will post your completed fills after you get your card.

So are we allowed to start posting stories right away? Or should we wait until after the 20th to start officially posting our square fills?
Jun. 17th, 2010 03:06 pm (UTC)
You can go ahead. We didn't think this would take off so fast when we planned it. I will make an announcement for everyone else.

Yes. However, you only must complete one bingo to request a new card.

So find a bingo that you can write (or whatever it is you're doing) that doesn't include those, and then request a new card.

Remember, the point is to challenge yourself and to be creative.

Is original fic allowed or should it all be fanfic?
Jun. 19th, 2010 05:03 pm (UTC)
No, original fic is not allowed. You may write original characters into an existing fictional universe, though.

So the extra is from the same bingo card, correct?

And so if we did blackout, lets say, we post here after we're completely done and have those 16 fics listed? Making sure.

Thanks for organizing all this!
Jun. 19th, 2010 09:40 pm (UTC)
Extras are from the same card, but you have to fill the prompts again. So if you got a blackout bingo, then you would write 25 stories for the blackout. Then you would write an additional story or an additional 5 stories to get one of the extras. You would be using prompts you've already written for, but you'd have to write something new for them.

Does that answer your question?

Is it too late to sign up? I'm interested if I can still get in. If this isn't the place to sign up just tell me where.

Re: Sign up?
No, it's not too late! You can sign up for a card here. :)

What is a podfic? Thanks!
Jun. 23rd, 2010 12:57 pm (UTC)
A podfic is an audio recording of a fanfic.

Yes, as soon as you complete any kind of bingo on your first card you may request a second card. However, you may not use any posted fics to fill the prompts on your second card, even if a prompt(s) appears on both cards.

Does that help?

You would wait until you complete a bingo and then post links to all of the fills at the same time.

Okay, I'm a little confused. When we're posting our bingos (eventually), do we have to put all the fic/art/etc. under the cut here on this comm, or as long as we have the proper header and it's an open post we can link back to our own ljs? Or are the rest of the headers after the first are what's supposed to be under the cut?
Jun. 23rd, 2010 12:55 pm (UTC)
We encourage you to link back to the entries in your own LJ (or DW, or AO3, etc.). Yes, the rest of the headers go under the cut, so if you were doing, say, a blackout, there wouldn't be a gigantic long post of links on the main page of the community.

Does that help?

I have a story idea for a prompt that also fits a prompt on my h/c bingo card. Would it be eligible if I post it for both comms within the time period?
Jun. 23rd, 2010 03:52 pm (UTC)
Sure, that's fine, as long as the fic meets the minimum requirements for this challenge. :)

Can we post our Bingo squares to our own journals before we have a bingo? (If we finish one or four squares? Will it still count as a bingo later when we get 5?)
Jun. 25th, 2010 11:11 am (UTC)
Yes. So long as they were posted after you got your card, you may post them to your journal, to communities, to websites, etc. When you post your bingo to this community, you'll actually post links to wherever you posted your stuff, not the stuff itself.

Do all fills need to be for a single pairing or a single fandom, or is it okay to mix and match?
Jun. 28th, 2010 12:51 am (UTC)
You can mix and match as much as you want. :)

About posting - I know I have to wait until I get a bingo to post my cuts here, but as I write my fics, I can post them to my own journal as I write. For example, if I write one today, I can post it to my journal even if I don't write another prompt for a month, correct? And then once I get a bingo, post the above template here, as long as all posts are for after I received my card.

I'm curious because I've noticed that a lot of the recent posts have the fics that have all been posted within an hour of when the template was posted to this community.
Jul. 10th, 2010 01:24 pm (UTC)
Yes, you can post your fics to your journal/comm/webspace as you write them. When you finish a bingo, you will post links to all the stories to the community at one time. There is no set time that fics have to be posted to your personal journal/comm/webspace to count, however, but we encourage you to post them as you write them.

Wait wait wait... rec posts? I see rec posts mentioned in the template for posting. Is it a typo, or is it allowed? And if so, how many recs does it take to fill a prompt?
Aug. 1st, 2010 09:25 pm (UTC)
Yes, that is a typo. Rec posts are not allowed in this challenge.
